Glass Blowing Process

Glass Blowing: A Step-by-Step Process

Each ornament is hand-crafted
using centuries old glass-blowing techniques.
It takes several days to complete the
step-by-step process that creates
ORNAMENTS TO REMEMBER.

Step One: Over an Open Flame.

A small hollow bulb of glass is heated over an open flame until it is red hot.

Step Two: Blowing the Glass

Each ornament is individually mouth-blown.

Step Three: Conforming to the Mold.

The molten glass is put into a mold and the glass-blower blows to conform the glass into the shape of the mold.

Step Four: Silvering the Ornament.

After the ornament cools, it is silvered using a combination of silver nitrate, ammonia, distilled water, saltpeter and sugar. Then the ornament is allowed to rest overnight.

Step Five: Lacquer.

Each ornament is then dipped in a base coat of lacquer.

Step Six: Hand Painting.

Each ornament is hand-painted by artisans. Color lacquer is applied individually, layer by layer. Glitter and special coatings are added in the final step of the decorative process.

Step Seven: Capping the Ornament.

The stem of the decorated ornament is cut off and the ornament cap is put on.

Final Step: Individually Gift-boxed.

Ornaments are packed individually in special paper shred and are gift-boxed prior to shipping. The type of boxing may vary among the ornament designs.
