Celebrate what's important to you (and your friends or family) by using a theme-approach to decorating. For example, if your passion is gardening, create a Christmas display using real-life objects along with fruit, vegetable, flower, and gardening ornaments.
Don't limit yourself to traditional themes--break loose and experiment. Your starting point could be a hobby, a favorite object, an emotion, a time period--even a celebrity.
Collect all the items you own along the theme. One or two of the largest may fit on the tree as focal points. Then, consider alternatives to traditional lights and garland. Origami lotus blossoms could be strung together instead of garland on an Asian tree. Patio lights in the shape of sun umbrellas could light your tropical tree. Strips of film could be ribbon on a movie tree.
Use ORNAMENTS TO REMEMBER that fit with your theme, and then add additional objects such as souvenirs you've collected, movie tickets, garden tools, toys...nearly anything you can string on a ribbon or clip on to a branch will work.
This is the perfect time and way to showcase your favorite ideas and things. Keep it creative, keep it festive, and keep it fun!
