The Little Souls Story
Sarah Stanley met Gretchen Wilson through a friend and discovered they share many of the same values. Sarah fell in love with the charm of each Little Souls doll as well as the back story of helping others. Because of Gretchen's work, ORNAMENTS TO REMEMBER has decided to feature Little Souls Dolls on our website.
Background on Little Souls Dolls
Doll-making has been a life-long hobby for Gretchen. As news of her talent spread, she decided the Little Souls line should be as good for the earth and the people who make them as they are good for the hearts of those who own them.
Produced Using "Found Objects"
Each Little Souls doll is one of a kind, and is inspired by materials and found objects Gretchen collects as she travels the world. Vintage fabrics, buttons, ribbons and trim salvaged from fashion house pieces, as well as knickknacks and other high-end used treasures are incorporated into each doll's clothing and accessories. Each Little Souls is “green artistry.”
Hiring the "Culturally-Unemployable"
In many countries, a significant portion of the poor are women considered "culturally unemployable” because their cultures forbid them to work for wages or to sell goods and services. These women must rely on their husbands to provide for them. If they become widowed, they are cast out and have to resort to begging or prostitution in order to survive.
Through the years, Gretchen has employed culturally-unemployable women in the making of Little Souls dolls.
