The Back Story
Although nutcrackers have been known from as early as the 15th century, the tradition of the Christmas Nutcracker started with the story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E. T. A. Hoffmann. Later adapted by Alexandre Dumas and set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker Ballet has become a beloved tradition during the Christmas holiday season.
