The Back StoryMore: The belief that the earth was flat was prevalent among ancient cultures
until about the 4th century B.C., when the Hellenists of Greece
established it was spherical. Mythological places and creatures still
abound, however, along the edges of the flat earth. Perhaps most
recently, the Disney movie Pirates of
the Carribean: At World's End
shows ships with certain magical powers being able to flip over to the
backside of the flat earth, otherwise known as Davy's Locker. Rudyard
Kipling, C.S. Lewis and Terry Pratchett are all authors that have, in
recent times, built stories on the Flat Earth myth.
