The Back StoryMore: When you say/think “peach,” do you mean the tree, the fruit, the color or as a way to describe a person? The peach tree, a member of the branching Chinese tree (Prunus Persica), is grown in temperate areas for its edible fruit. A peach is the edible fruit of the peach tree. The perfect peach has juice, flavor, crunch, and color. The color peach is achieved by mixing pink with a bit of yellow. And, when someone is described as a peach, it’s because of his/her sweetness, beauty, or excellence. No need for a ladder to reach this peach ornament. Our little beauty is freshly picked and ready to enjoy.
A peach is called either a freestone or a clingstone, depending on how difficult it is to remove the pit (or stone) from the fruit. Although Georgia is known as the Peach State, two-thirds of the peaches grown in the U.S. are produced in California.
