Gourds are the fruit of
Lageneria and Cucurbita plants. They are often inedible and are used for
ornamentation, containers, and/or utensils. There are two
gourd-inspired expressions, “out of one’s gourd" and "off one’s gourd,”
used when one is thought to have a crazy idea or just to be crazy.
