The Back Story

More:
Children in countries round the world utilize different methods to get their wishlists and assertions of good behavior to Santa.
In America, children snail mail letters to North Pole, Alaska. In Canada, children snail mail letters to North Pole, Canada. In Britain, children snail mail letters to Santa/Father Christmas, Santa’s Grotto, Reindeerland, SAN TA1, or, more traditionally, burn them on the fire so the wind can carry their requests to Santa. In Latin America, children often tie their letters to helium balloons and release them into the air.

Recently, websites have emerged that allow children to email their requests to Santa.

The United States Postal Service officially began in 1775 with Benjamin Franklin serving as Postmaster General.  In 1847 the first stamps were issued and featured pictures of “monumental people.”  Over time, stamp designs have been expanded to include images of our nation’s changes and growth.  Looking at old stamps is looking back at America’s history.
