The Back StoryMore: Masks transform the identity of the wearer—whether in theater, at
parties, in cultural rituals, or during ceremonies. Masking can be
traced back to 20,000-year-old cave paintings in France where human
bodies were depicted wearing animal heads. With their many sizes,
shapes, colors, and designs—masks reflect different cultural beliefs.
A visitor imagined how lovely the Theater Mask Ornaments would look
displayed together in a shadow box.
