The Back Story
A favorite beach activity is watching for dolphins. They jump high out of the water, falling back on their sides as they slip beneath the surface. These mammals eat, sleep and play together in schools (groups). Dolphins move using flippers and flukes. Flippers are their front limbs and are used for steering. The tail consists of two flukes used for swimming. You can help protect dolphins from becoming entangled in dangerous debris by picking up trash (fishing line, plastic bags, plastic six-pack holder, etc.) found along the beach.
