The Back Story:Holiday Traditions:
In the 1820’s, Clement Moore describes St. Nicholas in his poem, ’Twas
the Night Before Christmas as being “…dressed all in fur from his head
to this foot.”
A hundred years later, the image of Santa Claus had become standardized –
portraying a bearded, over-weight, jolly man dressed in a white-trimmed
red suit with a black belt and boots. Whether he’s called Father
Christmas, Kris Kringle, Pére Noel, Saint Nicholas, or Sinter Klaas, we
decided Santa’s costume needed updating. So we gave the twinkle-eyed
guy a fashionably chic new suit!
