The Back Story More: In the 1820’s, author Clement Moore’s poem ’Twas the Night Before Christmas described St. Nicholas as being “…dressed all in fur from his head to this foot.” A hundred years later, the iconic image of Santa had become standardized – portraying a jolly, rotund, bearded man dressed in a white-trimmed red suit with a black belt and boots.
