The Back Story:Be in the Know:When filming a movie, pictures and sound are recorded independent of
each other. The movie clapperboard is a filmmaking devise that helps
synchronize the pictures and sound, as well as to mark specific scenes
and takes. During the early days of filmmaking, one person would hold
the slate for the camera while another would clap sticks together for
synchronization. Over time, the two components were combined into a
single device, making the job easier for one person to handle.
A woman purchased this clapperboard ornament for her theatrical daughter
last year, and came back to buy another theater ornament for her this
year. Her daughter is currently going through the process of selecting
schools with Musical Theater majors.
